My Makeup Obsession, Taken To A Whole New Level

Wednesday, 29 January 2014

Im so glad to start writing again! I have been neglecting my blog this year because I have been busy making some of my makeup dreams come true. On Friday I finished my last day of a certificate II course in retail makeup and skincare at the Academy of Makeup in Melbourne. I can't believe that January isn't even over yet and I have already completed one of my biggest goals for 2014.

I'm not a big new years resolution maker because I don't want the pressure and possible disappointment of not meeting them. But I do like setting myself goals and it is definitely satisfying when you complete them.

I started the course on the 2nd of January 2014. The main reason I choose to do the certificate II at this time and at the school I choose was because it was full time over January. Most certificate II's in retail makeup and skincare are done part time and can take over 6 months to complete. Doing it full time allowed me to go to school 5 days a week with amazing girls who loved makeup just as much as I did and complete the course by the 24th of January. I am now waiting for my certificate and then I will be able to work as a qualified makeup artist.

My obsession with makeup started when I was 18. When I turned 18 I started to go out clubbing with friends and started learning and experimenting with makeup. My love of researching (weird I know) led me to google search how to do certain makeup things. This led me to find youtube and the large community of beauty gurus. Watching their videos fed my love of makeup and really turned it into an obsession.

YouTube videos really taught me a lot about makeup and how to apply it on myself. Then I started wanting to apply it on other people. Getting my certificate opens up a whole new path for me. It allows me to do makeup as a form of income. It gives me a qualification to get different part time jobs in makeup that will be more fulfilling then my part time job I am currently working in.

I finished my university degree last year and I am currently having a gap year. Doing this course will hopefully allow me to work in makeup for the next year or so. I plan to start my own freelance business, expand my makeup kit and just enjoy my makeup filled year. I, like most 20 year olds, am not ready for work 5 days a week, 9-5. Doing makeup allows me to be my own boss, work flexible hours and do something I love.

I hope that you are able to live your dreams in 2014 and beyond. Never think it is to late to live out your dream and do something you want to do.
