Taking Control

I know that this isn't makeup or beauty related but this is my blog and I want to write about it :P. "What on earth are you talking about" you might ask. Well I have decided to make a change in my life. I want a healthier lifestyle and I want to write about this journey to keep myself responsible and on track. To achieve a healthier lifestyle I will be changing my diet and also exercising more.

About one month ago was when I started really thinking about what I was putting into my body and the exercise I was doing, or mostly not doing. However I expected to see results straight away, which in only a few weeks, is impossible. In the last week I have started eating more junk food and also not having motivation to exercise. So I'm getting back on track and hopefully I can stick it out. I will be the first to admit that my main reason for this lifestyle change is to get the toned body I have always wanted. However this time round I am putting less emphasis on how my body looks and more on how I feel and the long term health benefits.

In terms of food I am aiming to eat five meals a day. Eventually I want to be eating as clean as possible however I am going to ease into that making it a more comfortable transition. The number one diet change will be cutting out all junk food. Chocolate, lollies and chips are my favourite foods so this is going to be hard. In the past month I have definitely cut down the amount of junk I have been eating which has also cut cravings down which is great! The biggest way to not eat or eat less junk food is to not have it in the house!!! If it isn't there you can't eat it! If I want a snack it will have to be healthy! I think I will be posting about healthy snacks and meals I'm eating. As for all other meals I will be making some small changes. As I still live at home controlling what I eat can be hard if someone else is cooking for you. My biggest tip for this is to start getting into the kitchen and cooking yourself. I have began cooking myself brown rice and pasta while my family will eat white. I have also cut out white bread (unless I'm making bruschetta which I will never give up!!). We love our veggies at home but we eat a lot of potatoes, and unfortunately potatoes are packed full of carbs. So I am going to try and eat less potatoes and also start eating sweet potatoes instead.

For exercise I won't be going to the gym because memberships are expensive and I honestly walk into a gym and have no idea what to do with myself! For cardio I will be attempting to go for a walk everyday. I also have a stationary bike that I ride in intervals. What I do is ride as fast as I can for 10 seconds then slow it down for 20 seconds. Riding the bike for around 30 minutes will burn around 200 calories, however interval training should burn more calories. For toning my body I do Pilates. I fell in love with Pilates last year when I found the amazing and inspirational Cassey from Blogilates on youtube. Her videos are amazing and she also has workout and eating plans available on her website. Her videos cover all parts of the body . They are hard but don't let the discourage you, you get stronger and you will end up being surprised at what your body is capable off!!

So this will be the start to a healthier life. If like me you are looking to change something about your life, whatever it may be, you need to set yourself short and long term goals. Also be realistic and don't set yourself up for failure by setting your goals to high. I will keep you posted on the food I'm eating and the exercise I'm doing and hopefully I will be successful on this journey!
